Academic Assessment and Course Placement
RCTC can help students have a successful college experience by providing
information about current academic skills. Students will complete an assessment test
which will determine which courses are appropriate for their level of reading, writing,
and mathematics skills.
As students plan an academic schedule, they will be able to use these assessment
results as guideposts for successful achievement of their goals at RCTC. Students
should retain their assessment scores and bring the scores with them when meeting
with advisors or counselors. A student may be required to enroll in a developmental
class that will provide basic skills needed for success in subsequent classes. Students
who have successfully completed college-level English and math coursework may be
exempt from taking the assessment.

Credit for Prior Learning Through Work Experience (CBE): RCTC policy
for the evaluation of non-college learning, which occurred through work
experience prior to or outside formal academic institutions, is designed to enable
a student to enrich or accelerate his/her program of study. College credit is not
awarded on the basis of work experience alone, but for the achievement of an
advanced level of knowledge and/or skill. For additional details and procedures
